NFL odds for new Quarterbacks

NFL odds can be particularly challenging to handicap when the NFL gambling odds involve a new quarterback.  All handicappers of NFL odds know that quarterbacks are integral to their teams, so new, inexperienced quarterbacks are often seen as big question marks hovering over the NFL gambling odds.  Nevertheless, as you handicap the NFL odds for new quarterbacks it is very important to distinguish between NFL odds involving rookie quarterbacks and NFL odds involving quarterbacks who have been in the league for at least one season but are simply starting in their first games.

NFL odds involving rookie quarterbacks, meaning those players who competed in the NCAA in the previous season, undoubtedly must acknowledge the lack of experience held by the quarterback.  Veteran handicappers of NFL gambling odds know very well that handicapping NCAA odds and NFL odds is not the same because the NCAA and the NFL are two very different leagues.  Consequently, the ability to excel at the college level is not a perfect indicator of how well a player will perform at the professional level.

To be an NFL quarterback means having one of the most challenging jobs in all of professional sports and many college stars are unable to rise up to that challenge.  Therefore, when you evaluate NFL odds involving rookie quarterbacks you must assume that there will inevitably be many mistakes, some of which may be extremely costly.  Also, these players will often perform erratically from one game to the next, meaning a great performance in one game does not mean you can handicap the NFL gambling odds of the next game assuming the quarterback will be performing at an elite level.

However, when evaluating NFL odds for quarterbacks who have been in the league on the sidelines for at least one year and are finally rotated into the spotlight, you can have significantly more confidence.  These quarterbacks are often lower draft picks than those who begin playing sooner, but the benefit of sideline experience should not be overlooked as you handicap NFL odds.

When a quarterback is able to spend one or more seasons on the sidelines watching and learning from a veteran quarterback, the young quarterback will learn many important lessons that will ease his transition into the NFL.  Consequently, you can handicap his team’s NFL odds with greater assurance that he will play more like an experienced quarterback and not make as many of the mindless blunders that plague rookie quarterbacks.  Additionally, you can evaluate the NFL odds knowing that a team will have greater confidence in such a quarterback, which allows the offense to run more smoothly and effectively.
